Book presentation: Nick Bostrom, Deep Utopia: Life and Meaning in a Solved World (2024).

Nick Bostrom was in 2023 the world’s most cited philosopher under 50. A few weeks ago, he published the book Deep Utopia: Life and Meaning in a Solved World. It discusses a thought experiment: What if technology were to solve every possible problem – what (if any) would then be a good and meaningful life for humans? The book is a secular discussion of a topic commonly discussed in religion: what would a good afterlife be like? At the MF CASR lunch May 7th, Atle Ottesen Søvik will present the book and discuss it in light of philosophy of religion and AI ethics.
