Impostor-syndrome: on feeling inferior in academia
Academic institutions often present themselves as meritocratic institutions, rewaring academic achievement and ability. While this is not always true in reality, the celebration of achievement means that many academics have at some point suffered what is commonly known as the «impostor syndrome»: Feeling intellectually inferior or professionally weaker, and feeling that we are hiding it from our colleagues (more or less successfully!).
This CASR lunch will have a slightly different format than the ususal lunches: three academics on different parts in their professional career will talk about their experiences with the impostor syndrome, and share a few reflections on what it might tell us about meritocracy in academia.
The panel includes:
Tone Stangeland Kaufman, professor in practical theology, MF
Sebastian Ekberg, doctoral research fellow at the Faculty of Theology, UiO
Ragnar Misje Bergem, associate professor in systematic theology, MF.
