Individual Faith Worlds— An Empirical-Theological Research Project
In my view, the theoretical focus of Empirical Theology is the psychological and social representation of faith in today’s world. Its research is not normative but reconstructive. That is, it examines which beliefs are present in individuals and in social discourses, and how they structure perceptions and actions. In the «Individual Worlds of Faith Project», we focus exclusively on individuals. Using qualitative methods (the Repertory Grid technique and narrative interviews), we reconstruct «personal religious construct systems» that individuals use to orient themselves in the realm of religion and faith. From a theoretical perspective, we seek to identify and systematize the fundamental elements of personal religious construct systems. From an applied perspective, we aim to develop tools that pastoral counselors and psychotherapists can use in their practice.
