"The Tolerance of the Tolerant. Negotiations of Tolerance in the Everyday Life of US Progressive Liberals."

There is an extensive philosophical literature on liberal tolerance, but quite limited knowledge about how liberals enact and understand tolerance in their everyday life. An interview study on progressive liberals in Southern California finds that liberal tolerance is experienced as ambivalent and matters of struggle and negotiations. It is argued that these findings should have implications for the philosophy of liberal tolerance.
