Thesis for Master in Religion in Contemporary Society AVH5110
This is a core course in the degree programme Master in Religion in Contemporary Society.
The thesis is an independent research project on a chosen topic. The work with the thesisis meant to strengthen the student's professional competence and educate for positions within research.
The thesis may be built on an independent analysis of empirical data, or it may give an analysis of the research performed by others. The thesis may be an independent work or part of a research project performed by others. Choice of research topic and perspective should be in line with the general goals for the master's degree.
All students writing a master's thesis must have a valid contract with their supervisor, and the supervisor is to endorse the subject of the thesis. MF assigns supervisors for all students, usually during the course MET5010. Prerequisites: As a main rule the students must have passed MET5010 or a similar course in methods and methodology in order to sign up for AVH5110.

In order to receive a final assessment, the student must:
- take active part in the writing seminars. This includes presenting draft texts and commenting on the drafts of other students.
- have a valid contract with a supervisor, in which the supervisor has endorsed the subject for the master's thesis. The subject for the thesis is to be chosen by the student in co-operation with the supervisor. The supervisor's endorsement is to ensure that the subject lies within the field of the programme and to ensure its suitableness for a master's thesis. There is to be a written contract between the supervisor and the student, in which the supervisor endorses the subject for the master`s thesis. The contract is to be submitted digitally, usually as part of MET5010.
- submit information about the expected time for handing in the thesis and state the topic of the thesis, both within a given deadline. See the exam pages, subcategory master's thesis, for submission deadlines and information on how to give notice.
- agree to an academic integrity commitment statement during final submission, confirming that the thesis is self-produced
- participate in the in-depth evaluation of the course if such evaluation is stipulated in the relevant term
Avsluttende vurdering/eksamen
The final assessment is based on the master's thesis (30.000-45.000 words). The thesis is assessed with grades A-F.
Information about submission deadlines, the submission procedure and the specified requirements for structure, layout and references, is available at the exam pages, subcategory Master's thesis. The Master's thesis must fulfill the specified requirements to be accepted.
The examination results will be announced within 3-6 weeks after the submission deadline.
