The Status of the Discipline PHD930
PHD930 is about exposing the candidate to the frontiers of research and the candidate's ability to expose their position in the context of peers. Thus, it introduces the candidate to current research positions, sources, central texts, methods, and the research history related to the Candidate's discipline(s) and topic. Several disciplines may be relevant for cross-disciplinary or interdisciplinary projects. Courses taken in Research Schools will be credited as part of this course.
The course will also give the student a better understanding of disseminating research. It may also include attending international conferences.
MODES OF TEACHING AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Attending research seminars and conferences and presenting their work are the primary modes of working in this course. A high level of individual adaptation is expected and should be developed in dialogue with the supervisor(s).

Studiekrav
The student must:
- disseminate the discipline(s) at the academic level by teaching or lecturing for at least 4 hours. The lecturing/teaching must be given at the university level
- take part in the course evaluation if such an evaluation exists
- either: Attend two international conferences related to the PhD project or discipline (after admission to the PhD program). Or: Have an academic stay abroad of a minimum of three weeks
- either: Complete at least two courses from a relevant Research School or similar courses in the discipline. Or: Submit an independent essay or article of approx. 6000 words. This essay or article should be connected to the research positions or challenges in the discipline(s). The essay or article is to be approved by the PhD supervisor. If the work is published in an academic journal with references, it is sufficient to pass on the bibliographical information
Avsluttende vurdering/eksamen
The final assessment for this course is based on fulfilling the course requirements. The course is graded 'passed'/'not passed'.
