Jeg er professor i Religionsvitenskap (Dr. art., 2007, Universitetet i Bergen) og har en bred faglig profil. Jeg har i en årrekke forsket på jødiske tekster fra seinantikken og deres transmisjons/resepsjonshistorie. I dette forskningsfeltet, har jeg spesialisert meg på den apokalyptiske teksten 2. Baruk, forestillinger om det lovede landet og om verdens ende. De siste årene har jeg forsket på syriske manuskripter som inneholder 2. Baruk og andre såkalt pseudepigrafiske tekster, i lys av Ny filologi. Jeg er også interessert i mediehistorie i bred forstand, og i forholdet mellom religion og media spesielt, både i historien og i samtiden. Jeg har publisert en bok om religion og populære medier. Jeg er opptatt av mediebruk i norsk skole og forholdet mellom media og akademia.
