Qualitative Methods: Analysis and Writing MET-EMP920
MET-EMP920 is an elective course. The course's main objective is to provide a broad orientation to different analytical strategies in qualitative data analysis and their potential and limitations. Basic procedures for inductive, deductive and abductive qualitative study will be introduced, and the student will learn how to code and categorise qualitative data material. Analytical strategies connected to the students’ research projects will be developed through their involvement, and the course will enable the students to substantiate and argue for their analytical approach. The course also reflects on common challenges in analysing empirical material and addresses criteria for quality in empirical research.

The course is normally offered every other fall term, with seminars of five days' length, approximately 24 hours of lectures, including group discussions and time for independent work.
Studiekrav
The student will
- attend the course seminar (min. 75 %)
- submit a draft (1000-1500 words) for a course paper before the course
- submit a final version of the course paper (2000-2500 words) within three weeks after the course
- participate in the evaluation of the course if such evaluation is stipulated in the relevant term
Avsluttende vurdering/eksamen
The final assessment for this course is based on fulfilling all course requirements. The course is graded 'passed'/'not passed'.
