Populisme og kristendom
What characterizes the relationship between Christianity and populism? In legitimizing political power, little can compare to appealing to ‘the people’ or to God. Populists tend to do both. Political leaders around the world use a populist and religious repertoire. In addition, Christian tradition and reasoning are not free of populist elements either. This CASR-lunch will present some insights from the book Populisme og kristendom (Populism and Christianity), published at Cappelen Damm Akademisk in 2022. The book focuses on the Norwegian society: Are there alliances or contradictions between Christianity and populist strategies in this context? How are religious symbols used in populist discourses, and how do the churches respond?
