Challenging autoethnography and ourselves – researching our own experiences as female pastors in Norwegian Free Churches
"We should really do a project on this!" we always told each other in the breaks we had sitting together and working on our respective PhD thesis. The "this" in question were female pastors in Norwegian Free Churches. However, as we were both pioneers in our respective churches, we encountered a "problem"; namely how to negotiate our experiences and normativities in such a project. In order to address this, we turned to autoethnography. However, autoethnography did not wholly fit our research and thus, we have attempted to develop the method to better fit our project. In this presentation, we present our ongoing work on experimenting with old and new methods and also our challenge to both autoethnography and the assumption that one should not do research on oneself.
