Antivirus
Windows
All PCs with Windows 10 already have the antivirus software Windows Defender installed.
Therefore, if you bought a PC that came with a trial version of antivirus software like McAfee, Norton, or other software, it should be perfectly safe to uninstall it unless you want to keep paying to use it. Windows 10's built-in antivirus should be good enough for most users.
Some internet providers or banks also provide either free or cheap antivirus software for their customers:
Check with your own internet provider's or bank's web site to see if they provide antivirus for you. Unfortunately, MF don't provide antivirus for our staff or students.
Mac
Even though it's not completely true that there are no viruses on Mac, they are still pretty well protected and it should not be necessary with antivirus software for Macs, as long as you are careful about not installing any software you are not sure about.
If you still want to install antivirus on your Mac, you can check the table below to see which software can be installed on Mac.
Windows 7 or older
If you are using Windows 7 or older versions (Vista, XP), your PC is no longer safe to use on the internet. We recommend that you upgrade your Windows, or buy a new PC. Unfortunately, we cannot help students with this. Please ask at an electronics shop or a PC repair shop if you need assistance.

Malwarebytes
We also recommend Malwarebytes, which is not an antivirus program, but a program to remove malware, which are annoying programs that often pop up windows with unwanted ads. This program can be used on both Windows and Mac.
This program has a free and a premium paid version, but the free version should be enough for just scanning and removing malware, even if it will ask you to pay to upgrade to the premium version.
