Who can apply?
There are various reasons why you may require accommodations.
Disabilities or other specific needs
These may include reduced mobility, visual or hearing impairments, cognitive disabilities, reading and writing difficulties, mental health challenges, chronic illnesses, or injuries.
Childcare Responsibilities
Students with childcare responsibilities or who need to breastfeed can also apply for individual accommodations.
Elite Athletes and student with positions in student political bodies
Elite athletes participating in national or international events, and students holding positions in student political organisations, may require specific accommodations. You can contact the student advisor for more information on available support options.
What can you apply for?
You can apply for various types of accommodations based on your needs.
Here are some examples:
- Extended study period
- Limited absence from mandatory classes
- Extra time on short examinations
- Extended deadlines for written assignments
Absence
In many courses at MF, students are allowed a certain amount of absence while still meeting the attendance requirements. This policy allows you to avoid applying for accommodations for short-term absences caused by acute injuries, personal illness, or caring for sick children.
Extended deadlines
In some courses, teachers have already scheduled two submission dates for written assignments. You can contact your course coordinator to request an extended deadline without needing to apply for specific accommodations through the form below.
If you have reading and writing difficulties, you may be entitled to extra time on some study requirements.
Extended time for study requirements
Short examinations
For short examinations (study requirements/mandatory activities) lasting 1–2 hours, an extension of 15–30 minutes can be granted.
Partial/midterm examinations
For partial/midterm examinations, the course coordinator can grant any student a few extra days in case of acute illness with a medical certificate (time for time, e.g., one week of sick leave grants a one-week extension, within reasonable limits). Applications for this should be made directly to the course coordinator.
Study desk
A portion of the study desks in the library are reserved for master's students and those with specific needs. These desks are allocated at the beginning of each semester.
Contact your student advisor if you require a reserved study desk.
Parking permit
Contact your student advisor if you need a parking permit due to a disability or other specific reasons.
Accessibility of the MF building
Please see the dedicated page for information about accessibility of the MF building.
What does the right to accommodations imply?
The right to accommodations is applicable as long as it does not place a disproportionate burden on the institution.
- This assessment should focus on the effectiveness of the accommodations in removing barriers for the students, the costs of the accommodations, and the resources available to the institution.
Accommodations must not lead to a reduction of the academic requirements of a course or the study program.
- In some cases, attendance in classes may be necessary to fulfill the academic requirements of a course. In other situations, students may compensate for absences by completing an alternative assignment, such as a written task. Each case must be evaluated individually.
Sign language, Personal Assistant, use of wheelchair or Guide dog
If you have a disability that requires assistance, such as a sign language interpreter, personal assistant, wheelchair, or guide dog, please inform us at tilrettelegging@mf.no before the start of the semester. This will allow us to make the necessary accommodations.
Registration of presence and Evacuation plan
If you use a wheelchair or rely on an elevator, please register at the reception on the first floor upon your arrival and notify them when you leave the building.
Students who require assistance can have an individual evacuation plan created for fire or other emergencies. For more information, please contact Nadia Sand at nadia.sand@mf.no if this applies to you.
Application deadline
The deadline for applying for accommodations is September 1st for the fall semester and February 1st for the spring semester.
If a need for accommodations arises after the application deadline, you can contact your student advisor.
Application and documentation
If you need to justify the need for accommodations, please attach relevant documentation, such as a medical certificate, an expert statement, or other relevant documentation.
When can you expect a response?
You will receive a written response to your application, either in your digital mailbox or by regular mail. You will usually receive a response within a month. If it takes longer to process your application, you will receive a preliminary response from us about this.
