Mandatory activities
Mandatory activities are tied to the implementation of a course and assessed by a pass/fail grade. The mandatory activities must be approved before you can take the exam. Examples of mandatory activities can be requirements of attendance, drafts of an assignment, book reports, short tests, etc.. The mandatory activities are listed in the course description. Information about deadlines for submissions of mandatory requirements is found in Canvas.
If you are prevented from completing mandatory activities and have a valid reason, you must contact the course coordinator. The requirements for documentation are the same as on exams. Read more about valid reasons for absence here. The deadline to contact the course responsible is three working days after the submission deadline/after the day when there is an attendance requirement.
Approved mandatory activities in a course may normally be carried forward for up to two years, provided that no changes have been made to the course description or teaching arrangements that affect the mandatory activities.
Mandatory activities that are directly related to an exam (eg. draft assignments) cannot be transferred to later semesters. Exceptions to this rule is given in the course description.
If you are retaking a course, you are responsible for ensuring that all mandatory activities have been completed before the exam, including any new activities. In some cases, you may apply to the course coordinator for exemption from new mandatory activities.
