The Student Council
The Student Council is the highest governing organ in the student democracy at MF.
The Student Council (SR) at MF consists of seven students elected to represent the interests of MF students in decisions that affect them. This may include matters such as how study programs are organized or how the learning environment at MF should be developed.
What we work on, and how we do it, is ultimately decided by you, the students. These priorities are determined at the student assemblies held each semester.
In addition, we organize a variety of social and academic events for MF students. You can also apply for funding to organize your own event or initiative!

Apply for Funding
The Student Council would like to fund your initiatives
Do you have an idea for an event, association, club or other initiatives that can in favour for many MF students? Then the Student Council would like to assist financially.
Here you will find everything you need to know about who can apply, what you can apply for, what you cannot apply for, and the link to the application form.
Who can apply for funding?
All students that have paid the semester fee at MF can apply. Applicants may be either one student or a group of students. Student associations related to MF are also welcome to apply for funding; however, the Student Council currently encourages student associations to seek financial support first from The Board of Cultural Affairs.

What can you apply for?
Students can apply for funding for:
- Project support to an event, a concept, or an activity.
- Investment support: for instance sports equipment (soccer, table tennis, volleyball, etc).
- Operational Support (costs associated with regular operations over the course of a semester or calendar year)
The student council will prioritize applications that will have an impact on a larger number of students.
What can you not apply for?
The funding cannot be used to buy alcohol or other intoxicants. This funding is not normally granted to applicants who are already receiving support from the present budget of the Student Council. Applicants who, without a valid reason, exclude or in another way make discrimination against some students cannot be granted support whatsoever. The Student Council also does not allocate the funding to the applicant's own travel expenses, or to applicants where the money will be used to pay fees and/or salaries. Any appeal of a Student Council decision must be made within two weeks after the date it was made.
Application form and deadlines
The application deadline is normally 7 working days before the next Student Council meeting.

What must be in the application?
The application must include:
- Applicant's name, telephone number and address
- Contact person for the project with address, telephone number, e-mail and study extension. The applicant and contact person can be the same person.
- Applicant's purpose with a justification of how this is relevant to MF students
- Presentation of the measure for which support is sought
- Budget of the project
After conducting the project, the applicant must also submit a simple report with accounting. The report should describe how the project was conducted and what experiences resulted from the project.
What are Student Politics about?
As a student, you are in a very special situation in your life. You must go to lecture, read thousands of pages from the curriculum, maneuver through subject plans and timetables, and eventually take the exam. While all this takes place, you should also live, be social, attend leisure activities and maybe need healthcare.
All this within completely unique economic conditions compared to other groups in society. How should your education be organized? What welfare programs should students have access to? These are two overall student policy issues that are important for students to a part of the decisions making.
The Student Council works for the students' best interests in education quality, economics and welfare, learning environment, social measures and internationalization, across and through management at MF, and in cooperation with external organizations, among others The Student Welfare Organisation of Oslo and Akershus (SiO) and The National Union of Students in Norway (NSO).
The National Union of Students in Norway
The Student Assembly at MF, together with the student representative bodies at most university colleges, specialized university institutions, and universities in Norway, is a member of the National Union of Students in Norway (NSO).
NSO is our shared national organization, working on behalf of its member institutions to represent students' interests in dialogue with politicians, government bodies, and other stakeholders. In addition, NSO supports the development of local student democracy and student representation across Norway.
NSO consists of a number of committees and governing bodies. As an MF student, you have the opportunity to stand for election to many of these positions each year, including both academic committees and organizational committees.

Studet Welfare Organisation (SiO)
All universities and university colleges that receive public funding in Norway are required to be affiliated with a student welfare organization (studentsamskipnad), which is responsible for supporting students' welfare and well-being.
MF is affiliated with the Student Welfare Organization of Oslo and Akershus (SiO), and all MF students pay a semester fee that gives them access to the services and benefits offered by SiO.
SiO’s services include:
- Student housing
- Health and counselling services
- Sports and fitness facilities
- The Akademika bookstore
- Student daycare centres
- Cafeterias and cafés
The Student Welfare Council of Oslo and Akershus (VT)
The Student Welfare Council of Oslo and Akershus (Velferdstinget, VT) is an interest organization representing approximately 40,000 students affiliated with SiO.
VT works to improve student welfare, both locally and nationally, advocating for better conditions and services for students throughout their studies. Each year, VT also elects members of its Executive Committee as well as student representatives to the SiO Board of Directors.

Student democracy A-z
General Assembly
The highest governing body representing the students at MF. In this assembly, all students at MF may speak, give their opinion and proposals. This assembly also deals with matters such as budget, annual report, planning of the respective year, and accounting, as well as the nomination of representatives to student bodies, and other issues that concern students at MF.
Advisory Board for the Departments
This group decides matters related to disciplines and study programs.
Course Representative
Selected among students for each subject, and is an intermediary between the students of the respective subject, the lecturer, and the Student Council.
The Help Fund
NOK 40,- (voluntary) of semester fee goes to MF's student help fund. The General Assembly elects a new project every Spring in order to apply this fund.
The Control Committee (KK)
Has the supreme authority for interpretation of rules in general assemblies, and makes sure that the general assembly, elections, and the Student Council's work are done correctly.
Learning Environment Committee (LMU)
Body responsible for everything related to the study environment at MF.
The National Union of Students in Norway (NSO)
Works on behalf of the student's interests before politicians and other relevant bodies.
SAIH
Solidarity and development organization that works with educational assistance, information, and political advocacy. NOK 10,- (voluntary) of the semester fee goes to this organization.
The Student Welfare Organisation (SiO)
The Student Welfare Organisation of Oslo and Akershus, which focuses on students' welfare needs on campus and in region of Oslo and Akershus.
The Student Council
The highest governing body working on a daily basis on behalf of the students at MF and is chosen in the General Assembly. It consists of eight different positions, which are filled from students at MF. Every semester half of the members of Student Council are chosen by the students at MF.
The Board
The highest body at MF. The president and the Head of Student Politics / 2. vice president sits on the board.
Academic Affairs Committee
Makes overall decisions regarding studies at MF. It also coordinates the work going on in the Studies Department Council/Academic Board.
Election
Each semester an election is held to choose the representatives of the Student Council. The students that pay the semester fee at MF have the right to participate in this election.
Welfare Council
A student council founded in 2004, which consists of student representatives from the different institutions of higher education that are members of the Foundation for Student Life in Oslo and Akershus (SiO).
Lecturer of the year
Every year a lecturer is adorned with this great prize.
Every year, the students select the MF Lecturer of the Year.
