Registering public and user-oriented outreach in Cristin
Why should you list your outreach efforts in Cristin?
Listing your public and user-oriented outreach efforts in Cristin helps to highlight these activities, and gives MF an overview of the activities themselves. MF reports public and user-oriented outreach and communication activities annually to the Ministry of Education and Research, along with scientific publications.
Each researcher must ensure that his or her public outreach activities are listed in Cristin.
What should be listed?
In general, the rule for listing anything in Cristin is that there be a clear link to MF (see also using the correct address when publishing a scientific paper.) Any activity you record in Cristin should be related to:
- Your professional work at MF;
- Your field of expertise at MF, or that you represent in your work at MF;
- Your role or title at MF.
Additional listing guidelines
- Each activity should be listed under only one category. (Example: an interview should be listed either under “Journal Article – Interview” or “Media Contributions – Interview”).
- If several researchers are involved in the contribution, it should only be listed once, but all of the contributors should be named.
- Contributions that have been published in different types of media should be listed separately. Example: An article on the same topic that has been published on forskning.no and in VG, should be listed as three contributions. If the same topic has been published in many media the researcher can also note “also published in..”
- Articles that are published in the same magazine / newspaper as both online and print versions should be listed as one entry, but should refer to the URL in addition to the print media.
Any outreach or communication should be listed with as thorough documentation as possible. For articles or communication that is found on the web, the URL that links to the specific topic in question should be listed, not just the URL of the publication. Researchers should feel free to use the comments field to describe the issue further.
