Research projects carried out from MF follow MF's principles of Open Science. We ensure that research data is made available to relevant users on equal terms as long as there are no legal, ethical or security related reasons not to.
Exceptions are made in cases where making data accessible has large economic or practical consequences for those who have generated or assembled the data. This is in line with The Research Council’s Policy on Open Access to Research Data (pdf in Norwegian).
These principles are based on the government's national strategy on access to and sharing of research data (Norwegian). To read more about open access to research data, please proceed to The Research Council of Norway’s website.
FAIR stands for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-usable. This is all about handling and describing data in a way that will enable others to understand and use it in the future.
In very few cases, research data will be considered completely "FAIR". However, even in cases where the data in question is not to be shared openly, the FAIR principles lay down guidelines for good data handling throughout the life of the project.
The aim is to increase the potential for reuse, and in many cases even small steps can increase the "FAIR degree" considerably.
