Qualitative research methods (for theology students) MET5020
This course is a course in research methods for theology students who plan to conduct empirical, qualitative research for their master's thesis.
The course consists of two parts:
Part A: Choice of discipline and method (1 ECTS)
The aim of this part is to help the students make an informed choice of discipline and research method for their master thesis. Part A is identical to Part A in the course MET5030.
Part B: Qualitative research methods (9 ECTS)
The aim of this part is to make students able to critically understand and discuss the choices involved in conducting qualitative research, and help them in designing their own master thesis. The course addresses issues of research design, research methods, qualitative data collection and analysis, research ethics, and criteria for evaluating research quality.
The course will be taught in English in the spring semester unless there are only Norwegian students participating in the course.

To be qualified for final assessment, the student must:
Part A: Choice of discipline and method
- be present 100% in the start-up week
- have approved a short student note on "my thesis ideas" (max 500 words) that will be presented at the beginning of the start-up week and revised towards the end of the week
