Checklist at the start of the semester
There are many things to remember at the start of the semester, whether you are a new student or a long-time student. Follow this checklist and make sure you get everything done by the deadlines.
1. Register in Studentweb
Every semester, you must register for the semester and sign up for the courses you will be taking. You do this in Studentweb.
The deadline for registration is no later than August 25 for the fall semester and January 15 for the spring semester.
2. Pay the semester fee
Each semester you must pay a tuition fee/semester fee. You can find payment information in Studentweb.
The deadline for payment is 25 August in the fall semester and 15 January in the spring semester.
Once you have registered and paid, you are officially a student.
This means:
- You have the right to study at MF and can take exams.
- You get access to your courses in Canvas. This is where you get all information about classes and seminars.
- You can receive loans and grants from Lånekassen if you have applied for them.
- You can get a student card and a valid student ID.
3. Activate your user account
As a new student, you must activate your user account at MF. This is the username and password you use for all digital services and platforms you use as a student, including Canvas, wifi and Feide login.
This account also gives you free Microsoft Office as long as you are a student at MF.
4. Get a student card and student ID
If you are a new MF student, you must obtain a student card and student ID.
You can use the student card as a library card and a print and copy card. In addition, it gives you various discounts. The card is only valid together with the student ID.
How to get a student card:
The payment of tuition fees must be registered the day before you order the card.
Ready-made cards can be picked up at the card center at MF between 11.00-14.00
If you do not have the opportunity to order your student card online, you can attend a drop-in session at the library's card center on the 2nd floor at MF. The card center is open on Tuesdays from 13.00-14.30.
In week 33, there is also the possibility of drop-in every weekday between 11-14.
How to get a student ID:
- Download the app Student ID
5. Check your schedule
Find out when you have classes.
6. Check your exam dates
It is your responsibility to know when you have an exam. You can find the exam date in the course description for each course you are taking.
Are you unsure which courses you should take? Check your study plan in Studentweb.
IMPORTANT: Note that you cannot take written school exams using Chromebooks. The written exam can be taken with a Windows or Mac laptop.
7. Log in to Canvas
Canvas is the learning platform MF uses. This means that you get all the information you need about teaching and assignments in Canvas. You will also receive important messages from, for example, your teachers. It is therefore important that you check Canvas regularly and learn how to use it.
Canvas is available online and as a separate app.
8. Apply for facilitation
If you need accommodation for exams or everyday study, you must apply for this by 1 September for the fall semester and 1 February for the spring semester.
